Home made tangyuán I enjoyed last night.
Last night, my brother-in-law and his wife prepared the filled tangyuán and boiled its sweet ginger soup for us.
I remember my aunt and Grandma in Indonesia normally make tangyuán for the whole big family during this festival and I always look forward to their giant tangyuán filled with lots of chopped peanuts, sugar and dried orange peel slices. Dōngzhì Festival was indeed one of my favourite Chinese festivals after the Mooncake festival.
To my surprise, the Chinese community in Malaysia takes this festival as a time for the family to get together quite seriously. I noticed that most of the Chinese shops, restaurants and stalls did not operate today because they wanted to celebrate this festival. Also, my parents-in-law purposely went all the way down to Johor this morning as they wanted to pray during this festival.
